About This Project:
This design work was for the Scottish/Irish band Dallahan. The singles for their latest album have historically significant inspirations. The first single (Marina) is about La Malinche, or Marina Cortez of the pre-Columbian Nahuas. This art depicts both the sun setting over a mountain range, as well as a ceremonial headdress. The second single (Durbar Square) is inspired by the royal palace area of Kathmandu in Nepal. This art depicts several significant landmarks of the square with the Nepali letter forms doubling as foundations, or roots, suggesting the age and historical significance of the structures. The third single (Beaton's) was an ode to a friend who suffered a severe spinal injury. And finally the album (Speak of the Devil) was designed to utilize small glyphs for every track combined together into a rich tapestry of images, almost like a puzzle to be decoded.
