Famous Works
About This Project:
Famous Works was built on a simple premise - color plays a huge role in memory and recognition. I took famous works of art, usually paintings, and reduced their entire palette down to 8 representative colors. Then I evaluated the approximate percentage of the work that each of those 8 color swatches represented. Using a grid of 100 squares, those color percentages were then plotted in linear and chromatic order such that all semblance of the paintings layout or composition was destroyed. All that remained was a highly abstracted, yet accurate, representation of the colors used. After all of that obfuscation, it's still quite easy to tell what the original painting is.
